GCS Early Enrichment Series - Science and Art Fun with baby chicks

Children ages 2 to 5 are welcome to attend with their parents to enjoy the vast array of educational offerings at Glenelg Country School. Each session will include an educational lesson, a themed activity, and a snack. This is a wonderful opportunity to expose your child at an early age to new stories, languages, technology, games and friends. Families are encouraged to attend as many events as they would like. Abundant Life Concert: The West Virginians

Baby Loves Disco

Towson Town Center and H&M are proud to welcome Baby Loves Disco, the renowned family dance party phenomenon, on May 19, 2012, from 1-4pm in the Grand Court, level 1. This FREE event, featuring music, dancing and a variety of fun activities for kids, is part of Baby Loves Disco’s 2012 We Are Family Tour, celebrating families at more than 100 events in cities across the nation this year. Live DJs will spin G-rated dance tunes, while parents, grandparents and kids dance along and enjoy a ton of creative fun! Games, dance contests, crafts, kid-friendly spa services and goody bags are all part of the experience. Giant video screens not only show family-friendly music videos, they also allow dancers to check out their moves on the big screen! And the whole family can remember the occasion with photos from the new Baby Loves Disco photo booth.
Belair Cooperative Nursery School 50th Anniversary Event

The Belair Cooperative Nursery School board is pleased to announce that they will hold a celebration for Bowie’s only cooperative nursery’s 50th anniversary. The celebration will include food, games, and other children activities. This festival, open to all past, current, and interested future members of the Belair Cooperative Nursery school, as well as friends and family, will take place in the parking lot of the nursery school at 3120 Belair Drive, Bowie, MD, on May 19, 2012, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free, although donations are welcome and tax-deductible. The Belair Cooperative Nursery School, established in 1962, is one of the oldest preschools in the City of Bowie. The school is a non-profit, non-sectarian, and non-partisan organization. It has been accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education since 1970. The Belair Cooperative Nursery School rents classroom space from the Christian Community Presbyterian Church on Belair Drive in Bowie. The school’s purpose is to provide children with a group experience that extends the values of family life by fostering a sense of community involvement. It is the philosophy of the school to encourage student awareness of and participation in one's natural, social, and cultural environment. Parental involvement is an essential part of the cooperative school. The parents form the Board of Directors and govern the entire program. They hire the teachers, assist in planning the educational program, and participate in the classroom on a rotating basis as teacher's aides.
Chesapeake Bay Tour de Cure

Take the ride of your life and join us for our first ever American Diabetes Association Chesapeake Bay Tour de Cure! Cycle through what is known as the Hamptons of the Chesapeake Bay. Whether you're an occasional, novice, or expert cyclist, we have a route for you: 10 mile, 15 mile, 25 mile, 55 mile, 100 mile! No matter which distance you choose, you'll be fully supported with route marshals, SAG vehicles, mechanical support, and rest stops stocked with hydration and a variety of snacks to keep you fueled. At the finish, you will be welcomed with cheering volunteers, great food, and much more! Minimum fundraising for anyone who pedals is $200.

Frederick Pow-Wow

Hollister, NC- Pow-Wow, an American Indian owned and operated company, will sponsor the Frederick, Maryland American Indian Pow-Wow and Show at the E-Eventplex at the Frederick Fairgrounds (797 E. Patrick Street Frederick, MD 21705) on May 19-20, 2012. The Pow-Wow is an opportunity for the public to interact with American Indian dancers, singers, drummers, artists and craftspersons. This event is an attempt by Pow-Wow to educate the public about American Indians, past and present, through the arts. The pow-wow is an opportunity for the public to interact with American Indian dancers in regalia (outfits), singers, drummers, artists, and crafts persons. American Indian actor Apesanahkat (Menominee) will participate in the pow-wow Saturday and Sunday. His films include: “Sioux City”, “Dudes”, “Bagdad Café” and “Dark Horizon”. His television works include: “Babylon 5”, “Walker, Texas Ranger”, “Northern Exposure” and so much more. On Saturday, gates will open at 11:00AM, and the event will kick off with a parade of nations (grand entry) at 12:00 noon. Tribes will be represented at this year’s event, and they include: Haliwa-Saponi, Piscataway, Chickahominy, Rappahannock, Cherokee, Sioux, Iroquois, Lumbee, Hopi, Mattaponi, Nansemond, Choctaw, Navajo, and other Tribes and nations. Fun activities for children include: Storytelling by Rose Powhatan, pony rides, face painting, tipi visit and bow ‘n’arrow shooting. Fire dancer Juan Salinas of the Aztec Dancers will perform daily. Aztec is a term used to refer to certain ethnic groups of central Mexico, particularly those groups who spoke the Nahutal Language and who achieved political and military dominance over large parts of Mesoamerica in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, a period referred to as the Late post-Classic period in Mesoamerican Chronology. Often the term "Aztec" refers exclusively to the people of Tenochtitlan, situated on an island in Lake Texcoco, who called themselves Mexica Tenochca or Colhua-Mexica. The public will be able to purchase some of the finest Native American crafts available. Items for sale include turquoise jewelry, moccasins, beadwork, rugs, books, paintings and dreamcatchers to name a few. Buffalo stew, fried bread, Indian corn soup and buffalo burgers are just a few of the Native American food items that will be on sale at the event. White Marsh Mall Hosts CANstruction for a Good Cause

Teams of Baltimore architects, engineers, contractors, designers and students will march into the White Marsh Mall prepared to create masterpieces for the AIA Baltimore 2012 CANstruction design competition. After the competition is over, all of the canned food is donated to The Maryland Food Bank and other emergency feeding programs in the community to help those in need of food assistance.

The course will focus on newborn care, including newborn procedures, feeding, sleeping. infant communication, diapering and dressing, bathing and swaddling.
