Fabulous at Fifty Jewish Museum Birthday Bash

Takes place on September 19, 2010

In culmination of its year-long 50th anniversary celebration, The Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) will hold a neighborhood block party. The JMM Anniversary Party will feature music by Verklempt, a local klezmer band with voice, accordion, guitar and tuba and drums from noon – 1 p.m., Rak Shalom, a Jewish A Capella band that sings Jewish pop, folk and rock, from 1:15 – 2:15 p.m., and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, a 4-piece jazz/rock band that has shared the stage with performers like The Bridge, Ludacris, Telepath and Government Mule from 2:30 – 4 p.m. There will be art projects, games, balloons, a moonbounce, ice cream and cupcakes. Neighbor museums including the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, The Flaghouse & Star Spangled Banner Museum, and the Carroll Mansion, will have tables, with information and children’s activities related to their sites. Along with the JMM, these museums will also offer free admission on the day of the block party.

Free Family Fun Night

Families throughout Maryland are invited to the Dancel Family Center Y for a free night of fun and entertainment! At the Family Fun Night, guests can enjoy a fitness class, the gym or pool, a challenge on the indoor rock climbing wall and a variety of games. Additionally, healthy snacks and giveaways will be provided. The free family nights are one of the many ways the Y of Central Maryland is keeping its promise of affordability. The Y invites everyone in Maryland to take advantage of this fun evening geared toward the promotion of quality family time.

Art Festival at Point of Rocks, MD

A juried art festival that follows the Catoctin Aqueduct 10K and Fun 5K Run in the C&O Canal National Historical Park next door to the festival grounds. Artists, food, demonstrations, childrens art exhibition, and entertainment which includes: 2 performances of an aerial dance troupe "Updraft - a Conspiracy of Movement," "The Funny Guy" Paul Hadfield, professional street performer and former circus clown/comedian,"Willie Barry," an amazine Bob Dylan-style singer, and possible other performers

Casey Cares Foundation's 8th Annual Rock & Roll Bash

Even though you’re in Baltimore, you’ll be in a “New York State of Mind” when musicians from bands like the Billy Joel Band, Bon Jovi, Kiss, New York Dolls, and others jam together on Saturday night, Sept. 25th at Rams Head Live at Power Plant Live for the 8th Annual Rock and Roll Bash to benefit the children’s programs of the Casey Cares Foundation. Tickets are $100 and include open bars, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dancing, and of course, great music! The Casey Cares Foundation provides uplifting programs with a special touch for critically ill children and their families. Farm-City Celebration Weekend

Southwest Area Ark Aero Modelers, 2010 Family Fun Weekend Fly-In

The Southwest Area Park Aero Modelers radio controlled airplane club will host its annual Family Fun Weekend Fly-In event on Saturday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. The event will be held at Baltimore’s Southwest Area Park. The 2010 Family Fun Weekend Fly- In offers airplane enthusiasts, hobbyists and spectators two days of festivities, demonstration flights and training sessions for those interested in perfecting their flying skills. Open flying time is available throughout the event around the club’s 600 ft. by 150 ft. grass runway. A raffle will be held for a Giant Scale Hanger 9 Taylorcraft aircraft. On Saturday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. the friendly fly-in will give way to acrobatic aerial maneuvers in a freestyle flying competition, with cash prizes awarded for the best flights. The 2010 Family Fun Weekend Fly- In will be held at the SWAP Modelers Flying Site in Baltimore’s Southwest Area Park. Admission to the event is free. Taste of Africa

Journey to the great continent of Africa and experience the cuisine. Activities for the whole family include drumming, dancing, demonstrations, food, music, and storytelling. Feel free to come dressed in traditional African attire. Sponsored by Peju’s Kitchen (Nigerian), Elfegne Ethiopian Café, and Tam Tam African Restaurant (Senegalese) and hosted by The Park School of Baltimore and its Black Culture Club, Black Female Forum, Black Male Forum, and P2B2 - Park Parents of Black/Black Multiracial Students.

Baltimore/Washington Ride for Kids

Takes place on September 26, 2010

Join hundreds of participating motorcyclists along with pediatric brain tumor patients, their parents and supporters at Turf Valley Resort for this annual ride to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The ride culminates with a "Celebration of Life" program featuring onstage interviews with local survivors and award presentations. Riders on all makes and models are welcome. Ride for Kids events are sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Assn.

Support Group for Parents of Children with Mental Health Issues

If you are the parent or caregiver of a child (under age 18) with mental health issues, you are not alone! Come talk with other parents, grandparents, and caregivers experiencing similar challenges. Share your struggles, as well as successes and resources. Membership in NAMI is not required and there is no cost to attend. However, we are not able to provide child care at this time

Ark Jammers

Falling Leaves and Funny Faces

Cartoon lessons for children ages 6-13. Students will complete 3-6 drawings, at least 1 drawing completed through coloring. Cartoon themes will include autumn themed subject matter. Registration required.

Day Out With Thomas™
